Introduction to Solar Energy as an Alternative.  Every nation in this world depends on oil and coal to generate energy.  However, it is a foreseeable fact that in the near future, there won’t be enough of these nonrenewable energy sources to provide us with our energy needs.  Hence, governments are keen to find sources of energy that can be used as substitutes before the global energy crisis worsens.

In recent years, many groups have undertaken research and projects on the feasibility of solar energy as an alternative to fossil fuel and nuclear power.  As technology advances, more and more discoveries linking to the viability of solar energy as an alternative are gained.  Today, some countries are already claiming that they can sustain their nation’s energy needs by using solar energy.

So what do we really gain in using solar energy as an alternative source of power and electricity?

• Less dependence on the use of fossil fuel and coal which are expensive.  Over the years, nations with ample amount of oil dominate production and distribution globally.  As sources, they are able to dictate costs of raw materials to produce energy.  Since there is always demand, costs of oil and coals are always high which in turn will become the burden of end the users.  Unlike with solar energy as alternative power source, the only component that is needed is sunlight.  Thus, using solar energy could cut back electric consumption costs considerably.  Any start up cost spent will be regained in a few years time, from then onward, any amount that you are able to save shall be considered as profit.

• Does not yield environmental issues when collected.  As we are well aware, extraction of fossil fuel and coal have numerous environmental hazards.  Lands are dug up and left hollow which eventually causes erosion.  Many nations are continually suffering from the effects brought about by mining activities including floods.  Meanwhile, applying solar energy as an alternative would not yield any environmental hazards, hence once harnessed and consumed; it can readily be replenished as long as the sun exists.

• No emissions and does not leave toxic deposits into the environment.  Solar energy as an alternative is guaranteed to have no emissions of carcinogens, carbonic acid and other greenhouse gases.  Pollutants as such greatly affect the balance of nature as well as its inhabitants resulting to serious and deadly illnesses.

• One can earn from selling excess supply of electricity.  Financial benefits may be increased by selling any excess electricity that you have collected.  As many people and companies are gearing towards using solar energy as an alternative, or totally use it as primary source of electricity, these end users may be more than glad to buy cheap and ready electricity from you!

• Availability of Tax Incentives.  As mentioned earlier, priority considerations are given by many countries with the use of solar energy as an alternative power source, for this reason, governments are giving tax incentives and rebates to people or entities purchasing solar power systems.  With these motivations, solar energy as an alternative is truly gaining popularity among energy consumers worldwide.
